As the year is coming to an end, Christmas celebrations are on everyone’s lips. And this crazy year hasn’t prevented people from getting ready for Christmas. A recent RTL AdConnect study in collaboration with Sociovision examining the consumer mindset for Christmas 2021 reveals that people are ready to forget about the year we’ve had and make up for it by celebrating much more than in previous years. When asked in our survey, more than 50% agreed that Christmas 2021 will be wonderful!
“For Brits TV is the number one thing that gets them in the Christmas mood”
And what better way to get into the Christmas mood than by cosying up on the sofa and watching TV? Our study revealed that for Brits, TV programmes are the number one thing that gets them in the Christmas mood. And if there’s anything the last two years have taught us, it’s that if there is one media that can unite families and bring people together, it’s TV. This is why yet again this year, our partner broadcasters from across Europe are ramping up their programming to offer the best content for this festive season. Let’s have a look at what’s on…
Starting with classics, France’s M6 is bringing out the magic of Disney. From the more recent but endlessly popular Frozen, to the timeless classic Cinderella and many more, expect a true ‘Disney Party’ to get the family together.
And whilst we can all agree that Disney films are a must-watch, what would Christmas be without music and beautiful performances? For that, the UK has got us covered… ITV will broadcast not one, but two variety shows this December. Starting with the Royal Variety Performance, which will feature world-class performances from top artists such as Ed Sheeran, Sir Rod Stewart and the Cirque du Soleil cast. And for those of you that are into more traditional music, the Christmas Carol Concert is perfect. Featuring carols sung by the Westminster Abbey choir and hosted for the first time ever by Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton, it will put a smile on any Scrooge’s face!
This year, Italians will also have a melodious Christmas courtesy of Italian composer and pianist, Stefano Bollani, whose concert will be broadcast on Rai3. As well as this, Rai1, will offer a succession of six Christmas concerts, taking place in some of the most prestigious Opera Houses in the world, such as the Teatro alla Scala or the Teatro La Fenice. Culture is definitely at the center of this Christmas, as the channel will also show a documentary about the city of Naples on Christmas day.
And what’s Christmas without family games (and arguments about said games)? Spain’s Antena 3 will allow the viewers to spend a playful Christmas with a special festive edition of the channel’s hit program Tu Cara Me Suena. And the fun doesn’t stop after Christmas! Viewers will be able to take part in other game shows such as Ruleta De La Suerte or Pasapalabra.
For our RTL partners in Germany, Christmas will be all about the comedies that unite grown-ups and kids! German families will have the chance to spend this special holiday with the iconic Mr Grinch but also with the adorable characters of Pets 2. And there will be comedy galore on vox, which will be broadcasting classics like Sister Act 1 & 2, Pretty Woman and Hotel Transylvania 2. But the star of this season might be the new critically acclaimed Sisi. The Empress of Austria is getting her own series which will tell the story of this extraordinary 19th century Empress. It will be shown on RTL to end the year with splendour. Watch the trailer here.
So what are you waiting for? Put on a pair of cosy pyjamas, cuddle up in front of the TV and get in the Christmas mood with our TV partners.
